Using Alternative Payments in Canada

Alternative Payments supports both U.S. and Canadian partners. There are some important differences to be aware of when operating in Canada. This article outlines the key changes across currency, payment methods, and regional availability so you know what to expect.

Currency and Invoicing

Canadian partners operate entirely in Canadian dollars.

All partner balances, customer payments, and invoices are processed in CAD. Multi-currency invoicing is not supported in Canada, so all invoices must be issued in CAD.

Supported Payment Methods in Canada

Available payment methods in Canada include:

  • Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD)

  • Credit Cards

  • Debit Cards

The following features are not currently supported for Canadian partners:

  • Pay in Installments

  • Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL)

Compliance and Required Information

Operating in Canada comes with additional regulatory requirements.

  • Business Number (BN)

    • All registered Canadian businesses must provide a valid Business Number during onboarding. This is required for KYB verification, tax reporting, and invoicing, and is the Canadian equivalent of a U.S. EIN.

  • Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) Mandate

    • Before collecting payments via PAD, customers much approve PAD from the Customer Dashboard. This is a regulatory requirement and must be completed before any PAD transactions are processed.
